Every family business needs someone keeping standards up, and ours is Roland — our miniature schnauzer, named after my grandad. He looks like a grumpy teddy bear, has the eyebrows of a retired headmaster and the beard to match, and he is an absolute character.
He’s also our one guilty pleasure that’s not from Yorkshire. Schnauzers are German by birth — but Roland’s been here long enough that he’s an honorary Tyke. He disapproves of rain, postmen and anything that isn’t a biscuit, which makes him the perfect judge of whether a design is any good.
